newsummedia was founded in 2004 by a group of artists aiming to discuss and discover the many issues, concerns and challenges of modern 'New Media' artwork. Banded together by a passion for the arts and technology — { nsm } — the anti-msn — soon discovered many recurring themes and motifs in the art of the twentieth and twentyfirst centuries. Using technology and live engaging conversations — both amongst the { nsm } group and with practicing professional artists in the Greater New England { tla = gne } area — { nsm } aims to push the envelope of understanding and espouse greater knowledge and insight into the processes and motivations of this new 'movement' in the arts.

Q : Why are you called newsummedia?

A : In short — much of the artwork being created today incorporates more than the elements commonly associated with tradional artwork. The vast majority of New Media Art { tla = nma } consists of 'art' combined with an element of technology. Some New Media Art incorporates surveillance equipment, projections, interactive sonic art soundscapes and roving performers. nsm has deduced that New Media Art is somehow influenced by the following mathematical conception :

Art + Technology + Peformance + Choreography + Installation Art + Sound + Movement + Net-Art + Kinetic Art = New Media

This, in essence, is the 'new sum'.

The { nsm } organization consists of 24 permanent members which revolve on a semi-annual basis. Visiting lecturers augment the group and add industry insight. The group is growing on a daily basis.

The { nsm } mission is this : develop and deliver deeper understanding of New Media Art through critical discussions of the aesthetics of modernday art. Provide an intelligent, engaging forum for conversations about New Media. Decide for each member the importance and definition of New Media artwork in the world around us.
